Food
The use of food in ToP is to refill your HP without using healing items (every 3 steps, 15 Food is consumed and it refills 15 HP for each party member). In some levels this makes the game much easier.
The Sack Rare Items are cumulative (they add up); having all three means you can carry 22,200 Food. See the Rare Item Checklist for where to get them.
Several items can be modified using the Rune Bottle item. I'll say that the first item "becomes" the second one, and the second one is "modified from" the first one.
Every item has a Price which never changes. By default, an item is sold for double its selling Price. If a Charm Bottle item is used before entering the shop, it will be sold for 3/5 its Price; if a Lotus Perfume was used, it will be sold for exactly its selling Price. If the Lipstick item was used, the sale price will vary. Whichever of these items was used last determines the price you'll have to pay in the shop (in other words, you can't use two Lotus Perfumes to get a 75% discount!)
If you see a (TH) after a place where you can find an item, that means that the item is found inside the Treasure Hunt.
ALL places are Past unless specified, or unless they only exist in the Present or Future (e.g. Freezekill, Mausoleum, etc.) Also, if (TH) is listed next to an item, it refers to the Treasure Hunt and thus the place must be in the Future.
The best place to get food is Ninja Village, where you can buy Tuna for a measly 2100 gold each! Using up 8 of these will completely fill up your food bag! Stock up on Tuna and Japanese Apples here. If you want more, head to the Spirit Woods and kill the BoarBaby enemies; they'll each leave a Veal item. Of course, if you want easy (if expensive) usage, the Oden item will fulfill all your needs.

| This special item must be cooked using five ingredients: (All places are Future, and all prices assume you haven't used a Charm Bottle, Lotus Perfume, or Lipstick before entering the shop.)
Seaweed, which can be bought in Venezia for 1580 gold each; Radish, which can be bought in Euclid for 20,000 gold each; Egg, which can be bought from the man at the north end of Olive Village for 80 gold each; Pudding, which can be bought in Ninja Town for 10,030 gold each; and Miso, which can be bought in Ninja Town for 80,000 gold each. This adds up to 111,690 gold for one Oden. You also must have a Soup Pot, which can be found in the Treasure Hunt or won in the Coliseum. Take all five ingredients and the Soup Pot to Ninja Town. In the same house as the shop, go right and down and talk to the woman there; she'll make the Oden for free. Each Oden made will use up one of each of the five ingredients; if you have 15 of each, you can make 15 Oden. | |
